The Sugar Beet and Malt Barley Symposium began in 1988 in Lovell Wyoming. The expectation being that it would rotate between Billings, MT and Lovell, WY every other year. Since the beginning attendance at our symposiums have been amazingly consistent with a slight uptick in recent years.

After a slightly down year in Lovell, the symposium committee decided to host the event biennially in Billings MT where it has been hosted ever since.

In 2018 the committee in charge of putting together the Malt Barley and Sugar Beet Symposium, decided to create a new non-profit entity called the Mountain State Crop Education Association. (MSCEA)
